Shake off those cobwebs!

We all have those days where we wake up and do not want to do anything productive at all.  Admit it you?ve been there ? waking up realizing you missed that last episode of Grey?s Anatomy, and instead of working today, you?d really rather pop down in front of your computer, watch the episode on ABC.com and relax for the day.  What starts off as an anticipated one hour stint of relaxation, turns into an all day event, and before you know it, nothing of your work has been accomplished.

While taking time to yourself is perfectly acceptable ?and highly encouraged ? it is important to make sure that we don?t let our feelings of lost ambition get the best of us.

How to overcome it?  Use that quiet sit down time as a reward.  Work on those tasks that need completion for a few hours, and then take a break to enjoy that moment of relaxation.  If you do work first, and relax second, even if you do get caught in the state of relaxation a little longer than planned, at least you?ve completed the tasks necessary for the day.

It sounds elementary, I know, but take a moment to shake off those cobwebs and get the work done that needs done.  You?ll feel much more relaxed when you sit down to, well  - relax ? knowing that you don?t have any work looming when you get back.

Nature vs. Nurture

You need to find the time to lay aside the guilt that often comes with taking time for yourself.  My tip this month is to sit down and make a list of the activities you truly enjoy.  Now, schedule some time to take part in one.  You do not have to do it alone, you can bring your family or spouse with you ? but take time to relax, and enjoy your day.

Our nature is to feel guilty about nurturing our needs as a person.  Stop it.

Nature vs. Nurture ? the WAHPM way of remembering what?s truly important.

Time Out!

Last night I bought myself a Glade Scented Oil candle.  I lit the flame and stood next to it, gleefully waiting for the candle to melt into the lovely little puddle of oil.  I was enthralled.  This one little moment of (albeit a little strange) time to myself, strangely reenergized me, and prepared me to work a little longer.

My tip?  Find a similar joy, a small five minute joyful activity and engross yourself in it.  You?ll be surprised what it does for your attitude.

It?s a WAHPM trip to the water cooler.

Lists.

I know, we all have lists ? grocery lists, to do lists, packing lists.  I?m talking about procedure lists.  Have you ever thought about what might happen should you *GASP* need to take a day off?  Would anyone know how to step in and help you out with any of your daily necessary tasks?  Building your procedures in a step by step list will help you feel more confident that someone can step in and help should the need arise.  Trust me, they come in handy.  Think of them as your own little recipe for success.

www.JOTT.com  ? this service is free, fast and fun.  You simply set JOTT up (seriously, this takes minutes to do), and program the phone number into your cell phone.  Now, while you are away from your desk, and need to send reminders to yourself, your assistant ? or lets face it, even your husband ? you can do so with a simple phone call.  JOTT takes down the information, transcribes it, and within moments sends an email to the desired person (and copies you).  I?ve even learned I can BLOG with JOTT? yes, that?s right, I Said BLOG.   Who knows, I might even be able to send out these weekly tips via JOTT? I may have to check into that.
